WASHINGTON, April 1: Donald Trump said the United States could wind down its military campaign against Iran within the next two to three weeks, adding that Tehran does not need to agree to a deal for the conflict to end.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Tuesday, Trump said, “We’ll be leaving very soon,” indicating a possible withdrawal timeline of “within two weeks, maybe two weeks, maybe three.”
When asked whether diplomacy was a condition for ending what Washington has called “Operation Epic Fury,” Trump said it was not necessary. “Iran doesn’t have to make a deal,” he said.
The remarks highlight shifting and at times conflicting signals from Washington on how the war—now in its fifth week—might conclude.
The White House later announced that Trump is scheduled to address the nation at 9 p.m. EDT on Wednesday to provide an update on the situation.
Previously, the U.S. had warned it could escalate military action if Iran refused a proposed 15-point ceasefire framework. Key demands included a commitment by Tehran to abandon nuclear weapons ambitions, halt uranium enrichment, and fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
