WASHINGTON, April 10: Donald Trump said on Friday that U.S. naval forces are being reloaded with “the best ammunition” and advanced weapons, warning that military strikes on Iran could resume if ongoing peace talks in Islamabad fail to produce an agreement.
Speaking in a phone interview with The New York Post, Trump said the outcome of the negotiations would become clear within “about 24 hours,” adding that the United States is preparing for all scenarios.
“We’re loading up the ships with the best ammunition, the best weapons ever made,” he said, adding that the U.S. military was prepared to act “very effectively” if no deal is reached.
Trump suggested that the administration is pursuing what he called a “reset” in relations but warned that military action remains on the table if diplomacy collapses. He also questioned Iran’s intentions in the talks, accusing Tehran of sending mixed messages on its nuclear commitments.
“You’re dealing with people that we don’t know whether or not they tell the truth,” he said, adding that while Iran has made assurances privately, it has issued conflicting public statements.
The remarks come as tensions remain high following six weeks of conflict between the United States and Iran, with ceasefire efforts described by officials as fragile and uncertain.
Separately, political divisions are emerging within the U.S. Republican Party over the handling of the war, with some lawmakers privately expressing concern about the administration’s strategy, while top congressional leaders have remained largely silent during the current recess period.
The developments underscore growing uncertainty over whether diplomatic efforts in Islamabad can prevent further military escalation in the region.
