WASHINGTON, Oct 10: US President Donald Trump said Friday that Washington may take further action against Iran, claiming the country’s military has been defeated and its economy is in serious trouble.

Asked by Anadolu whether a US response might be delayed until after the Nov. 3 midterm elections rather than carried out immediately, Trump replied, “We may. We will see.”

“But I think that they’re failing badly. Their country is failing badly. Their military is defeated. They have no navy. They have no air force. They have 300% inflation, and Iran is in very bad shape,” Trump told reporters.

He did not specify what action his administration might take or provide a timeline for any possible move.

The US and Israel launched a war against Iran on Feb. 28. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks across the region, while the conflict effectively halted commercial oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route.

The war, which has continued for more than seven months, has driven up global energy prices amid disruptions to shipping through the strategic waterway.

Washington and Tehran signed a framework agreement in June following mediation efforts by Pakistan and Qatar, aiming to halt hostilities and pave the way for negotiations. However, implementation has stalled amid disagreements over security and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
