WASHINGTON / PARIS, Jul 10: US President Donald Trump said Iran has requested to continue talks with Washington but declared that the ceasefire between the two countries is over following the latest escalation.
"We have agreed to Iran talks, but the United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the ceasefire is over," Trump said.
His remarks came after renewed military exchanges between the United States and Iran cast doubt on the future of the temporary memorandum of understanding signed last month.
Meanwhile, France accused Tehran of violating the US-Iran memorandum of understanding. Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on Friday, France's ambassador to the United Nations, Jerome Bonnafont, said Iran's attacks on Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan and commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz breached the agreement and urged Tehran to ensure the strategic waterway remains open in accordance with international law.
