US President Donald Trump said Iranian officials attending the funeral of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei could be targeted, but said Washington would not carry out such a strike because it wants to preserve prospects for negotiations, according to an Axios report on Saturday.

"They are all there. One shot [and we can take them all out], but we are not going to do that because then we would have nobody to negotiate with," Trump was quoted as saying.

Trump also claimed Iran was "begging to make a deal" and said both sides had agreed to pause talks for a week until the funeral ceremonies conclude.
