WASHINGTON, Aug 3: US President Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States would maintain its naval blockade of Iran until Tehran reaches an agreement with Washington or agrees to what he described as "total surrender."

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed the US Navy had complete control over the Strait of Hormuz and asserted that nothing would reach Iran unless the United States permitted it.

Trump also said negotiations with Iran had already begun and that additional talks were scheduled in the near future.

His remarks, however, appeared to contradict Iran's public position, as Tehran has repeatedly denied that any direct discussions with the United States are currently taking place.

The latest comments come amid continued tensions between Washington and Tehran over Iran's nuclear program, regional security and sanctions, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a critical global shipping route for oil and gas exports.
