Trump Says No Country Would Control Hormuz Under Iran Agreement

WASHINGTON, May 27: U.S. President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would be immediately opened to all shipping under any future agreement with Iran, stressing that no single country would control the strategic waterway as part of ongoing negotiations with Tehran.

Speaking during a Cabinet meeting, Trump said the United States would help oversee freedom of navigation in the vital oil transit route, adding, “We’ll watch over it, but nobody’s going to control it. That’s part of the negotiation that we have.”

He also indicated that some understandings had already been reached with Iran, but emphasized that any final deal would need to be “perfect.”

Despite suggesting progress, Trump said negotiations had yet to yield a concrete outcome, noting that Washington remained dissatisfied with the current state of talks. He added that Iran appeared eager to reach an agreement.

In remarks to PBS News, Trump underscored that the United States would not offer sanctions relief or concessions in exchange for Iran surrendering its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, signaling a hardline stance as diplomatic efforts continue.
