Trump says, 'Iranian Regime That Kills Its Own People Cannot Control a Bomb That Can Kill Millions'

WASHINGTON, May 7: President Donald Trump said he and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen agreed that Iran must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon, warning that “a regime that kills its own people cannot control a bomb that can kill millions.”

Trump made the remarks following what he described as a “great call” with von der Leyen, during which the two leaders discussed several issues, including Iran’s nuclear ambitions and trade relations between the United States and the European Union.

“We are completely united that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said, adding that both sides agreed on the dangers of allowing Tehran to possess such a capability.

In the same statement, Trump also turned to trade, saying he had been waiting for the European Union to fulfill what he called its side of a “historic trade deal” agreed in Turnberry, Scotland. He said the agreement required the EU to cut tariffs to zero.

Trump warned that he had given von der Leyen until the United States’ 250th birthday to meet the terms of the deal, saying that otherwise EU tariffs would “immediately jump to much higher levels.”
