WASHINGTON, Apr 15: Donald Trump said the conflict with Iran is “very close to over,” while defending recent US military actions as necessary to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon.
In a preview of an interview set to air Wednesday on Mornings with Maria, Trump claimed the damage inflicted on Iran would take years to recover from, suggesting a decisive shift in the conflict.
“I think it’s very close to over… If I pulled up stakes right now, it would take them 20 years to rebuild that country,” he said, adding, “We’re not finished. We’ll see what happens. I think they want to make a deal very badly.”
Trump indicated that while military pressure continues, the door remains open for negotiations, hinting at a possible diplomatic resolution.
The US president has repeatedly declared victory in the conflict just days after hostilities began, even as analysts note that the situation on the ground remains complex and fluid.
The full interview is scheduled to air on Wednesday.
