Trump Says Iran Situation ‘Going Quite Well’ as Tehran Claims Talks Have Stalled

WASHINGTON / TEHRAN, Jun 5: U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism about relations with Iran on Friday, saying the situation appeared to be progressing positively despite signs of continued tensions between the two countries. Speaking to reporters upon arriving in Wisconsin, Trump said, “The situation with Iran seems to be going quite well.”

However, comments from Tehran painted a different picture. Mohsen Rezaei, a senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader and former commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said negotiations between Iran and the United States have reached a deadlock. In an interview with CNN, Rezaei stated that “the ball is in Trump’s court,” arguing that the release of frozen Iranian assets would serve as a confidence-building measure and demonstrate Washington’s willingness to advance talks.

Rezaei also issued a warning over the ongoing standoff, saying that if what he described as a U.S. blockade on Iran remains in place and tensions continue, Tehran could target American military bases and broaden the scope of the conflict. He further claimed that any escalation could extend to major maritime routes, including the Indian Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

The contrasting statements highlight the uncertainty surrounding U.S.-Iran relations, with Washington signaling optimism while senior Iranian figures insist negotiations have stalled and warn of potential regional consequences if the impasse continues.
