WASHINGTON, June 15: US President Donald Trump announced that an agreement with Iran has been completed and authorized the immediate removal of the US naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, declaring that the strategic waterway would reopen to global shipping.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the agreement as a major diplomatic achievement and said it would help bring peace and security to the Middle East.
“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all,” Trump wrote. “I hereby fully authorize the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”
Earlier, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would reopen upon the signing of the agreement on Friday, calling the accord a “historic breakthrough” and claiming it would enhance regional stability and economic security.
“This Great Deal will bring Peace and Security to the whole Region,” he said, adding that previous US administrations had failed to secure a similar agreement with Iran.
Meanwhile, CNN reported that the US military has received instructions to lift the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz on Friday if the agreement is formally signed, citing a US official. The official noted that the directive reflects the current understanding but cautioned that developments could still alter the timeline before Friday.
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy transit routes, is a critical passage for global oil and gas exports, making any move toward reopening the waterway closely watched by international markets and regional governments.
