WASHINGTON, May 6: President Donald Trump said it is still “too soon” to prepare for face-to-face peace talks with Iran, despite reports that Washington and Tehran are nearing a framework agreement to end the 67-day conflict, according to the New York Post.
Asked whether preparations should begin for a possible trip to Pakistan for a peace signing ceremony, Trump said, “I don’t think so,” adding that such plans were still too far ahead.
The remarks came after reports suggested the United States and Iran were moving closer to a memorandum aimed at ending the war.
Earlier, Trump said on Truth Social that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open to all shipping, including Iranian vessels, if Tehran accepts the terms currently under discussion with Washington.
“Assuming Iran agrees to give what has been agreed to, which is, perhaps, a big assumption, the already legendary Epic Fury will be at an end,” Trump wrote.
He added that a “highly effective blockade” would allow the Strait of Hormuz to remain “open to all, including Iran.” However, Trump warned that if Iran refuses to agree to the proposed terms, US bombing would resume “at a much higher level and intensity than it was before.”
