BEIJING, May 13: U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday to an elaborate reception ceremony ahead of high-level meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
After Air Force One landed, a red carpet was rolled out as Trump was welcomed by senior Chinese and U.S. officials, including Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and U.S. envoy to Beijing David Perdue.
Around 300 Chinese youths waving miniature American and Chinese flags chanted “Welcome, welcome! Warm welcome!” in Chinese as Trump paused briefly, smiling and taking in the scene before greeting dignitaries and departing in a limousine to his hotel.
Traveling with the president were his son Eric Trump, daughter-in-law Lara Trump, and Elon Musk, among other delegates. The welcoming ceremony also featured a military honor guard and military band.
Trump is not scheduled to hold any further public events on Wednesday, but is expected to hold a series of meetings with Xi Jinping over the next two days amid global attention on U.S.-China relations.
