Dino LaVerghetta
WASHINGTON, Sept 30 : The White House has formally sent the nomination of lawyer and former White House official Dino LaVerghetta to the U.S. Senate for confirmation as the next U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the State of Kuwait.
LaVerghetta’s nomination was included in a list of nominations sent to the Senate on September 28, 2026, according to the White House. His nomination will now go through the Senate confirmation process.
LaVerghetta is currently a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of international law firm Sidley Austin. The firm says he has two decades of experience advising senior government officials and major corporations on legal, regulatory, political and national security matters.
He served as a lawyer in the Office of White House Counsel during both of President Donald Trump’s administrations. During Trump’s first term, he served as Senior Associate Counsel to the President and Special Assistant to the President, working on legal matters involving the selection, nomination and appointment of Supreme Court justices, judges, Cabinet members and other senior officials.
LaVerghetta also returned to the White House at the beginning of Trump’s second administration as a Special Government Employee and Senior Counsel to the President, where he again worked on Senate-confirmed nominations as well as national security clearance and background investigation matters.
According to his professional profile, his legal practice includes government investigations, congressional investigations, Department of Justice matters, federal regulatory enforcement, anti-corruption cases and regulatory litigation. He was also appointed in June 2026 as a public member of the Administrative Conference of the United States for a two-year term.
The U.S. ambassadorial post in Kuwait is currently listed as vacant by the American Foreign Service Association, with LaVerghetta now listed as the nominee
