Trump Escalates Rhetoric on Iran, Says “They Will Be Laughing No Longer”

WASHINGTON, May 10: US President Donald Trump on Sunday accused Iran of “playing games” with the United States for decades, warning that the country would soon be forced to stop amid ongoing diplomatic efforts linked to a potential peace deal in the Middle East.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Iran had “been playing games with the United States, and the rest of the world, for 47 years,” adding that it had been “laughing at our now GREAT AGAIN Country,” but stressed: “They will be laughing no longer!”

The remarks came as negotiations continue over Tehran’s nuclear program, although Trump did not directly comment on reported responses to Washington’s latest proposal.

Meanwhile, a senior administration official said Trump is expected to raise the Iran issue during talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a planned visit to Beijing next week. The official said the president would likely “apply pressure” on the matter, continuing previous discussions with the Chinese leader aimed at ending the ongoing Middle East conflict.
