Trump demands Iran compensation for Americans harmed, protesters killed

WASHINGTON, Aug 10: US President Donald Trump said Monday that he is demanding compensation from Iran for Americans killed or injured in attacks attributed to Tehran, and has ordered the issue to be included in any future negotiations with the Islamic Republic.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the demand followed an attempt by Iranian representatives to seek compensation from the United States for damage suffered during the five-month military conflict, an issue he said had not previously been part of negotiations.

Trump said Washington would also seek compensation for Americans killed or wounded in conflicts involving Iran, including attacks involving roadside bombs during the period when Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani directed Iran’s regional operations.

He further demanded compensation for the families of Iranian protesters killed by the Islamic Republic, claiming that “hundreds of thousands” had been killed over the past five decades and 52,000 during the past five months.

“I have instructed my representatives to put this firmly into any, and all, future negotiations,” Trump said.

The demand adds a new and potentially contentious issue to any future US-Iran diplomatic discussions, linking compensation claims over past conflicts and domestic repression to broader negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
