Trump Criticises House Vote to Restrict War Powers Amid Iran Negotiations

WASHINGTON, Jun 4: US President Donald Trump on Thursday criticised a US House of Representatives vote aimed at limiting presidential war powers, saying the move came at a sensitive moment during what he described as “final negotiations” to end the conflict with Iran.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump called the House measure “meaningless” and accused lawmakers of political grandstanding. He also singled out four Republican members who joined Democrats in supporting the legislation, describing their vote as unnecessary and disloyal.

“They know where the negotiations stand,” Trump said, adding that Democrats were motivated by opposition to his administration rather than national interest. He also claimed that critics would prefer to see the country fail than allow him another political success.

Trump further accused opponents of what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” while branding the Republican defectors as “grandstanders” who should be “ashamed of themselves.”

The comments came after the US House of Representatives passed legislation on Wednesday seeking to require the president to end US involvement in the Iran conflict, a move backed by Democrats and war-powers advocates who argue that Congress must reassert its constitutional authority over decisions involving military engagement.
