WASHINGTON, Apr 13: Donald Trump said the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz began at 10 a.m. EDT, warning that the move is aimed at preventing what he described as “blackmail or extortion” by Iran.
Speaking on Monday, Trump argued that safeguarding the strategic waterway is of greater concern to global markets than to the United States, claiming that America is less dependent on the route due to its domestic energy production.
He said Iran has “been called by the other side,” suggesting that communication has taken place between both parties, though he did not provide details on who was involved or what was discussed.
