WASHINGTON/TEHRAN, Nov 7: President Donald Trump has confirmed that the US military carried out fresh, limited strikes against Iranian air-defense systems near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, following reports of explosions on Iran’s Qeshm Island.

Iranian state media reported that two projectiles struck the Suza area of Qeshm Island after residents heard the sound of an aircraft overhead. Qeshm lies close to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important waterways and a vital route for global oil shipments. Reuters

Speaking to reporters after arriving in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday evening, Trump acknowledged the US military action, describing it as limited.

“We do minor strikes,” Trump said, referring to what he described as an Iranian anti-aircraft installation. “They built a little bit of an anti-aircraft device, and we knocked it out in about 15 minutes, maybe five.”

The Associated Press reported that Trump said US forces had targeted an Iranian air-defense system near Qeshm Island. The latest action follows what the US military previously described as defensive strikes earlier in the week. AP News

Iranian media, citing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, had earlier claimed that Iranian air defenses destroyed a US MQ-1 Predator drone over Qeshm. However, the Iranian reports and the details surrounding the drone incident could not be independently verified immediately.

The latest strikes come amid continuing diplomatic efforts, led in part by Qatar, to bridge differences between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear program and a possible broader agreement to end the conflict. Qatar has said its mediation efforts remain ongoing in coordination with both sides. Arab News

The military action is the first reported US strike since Republicans suffered major losses in Tuesday’s US midterm elections. The war and rising fuel prices were among issues that contributed to growing political pressure on the Trump administration. AP News

In recent days, Trump has alternated between threatening tougher military action against Iran and expressing optimism that negotiations could eventually produce a resolution.

Verification note: The core report — explosions on Qeshm and Trump’s confirmation of limited US strikes against Iranian air defenses — is supported by Reuters and AP reporting. Iran’s claim regarding the alleged downing of a US drone remains a claim by Iranian authorities
