Image posted by IRGC to convince Iranians he is still alive
WASHINGTON, Jul 13: U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday claimed that Iran's top military commanders had been killed and asserted that Mojtaba Khamenei was "90% gone," despite Iranian authorities recently insisting that the son of Iran's Supreme Leader is in good health.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump said Iran's military had been largely destroyed.
"They have no navy, they have no air force, it's all gone. Their anti-aircraft is gone, their leaders have all been killed, their best leaders have been killed," Trump said.
"Khamenei is gone, the son is 90% gone," he added, without providing evidence to support the claim.
Trump's remarks came just days after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) released a new image of Mojtaba Khamenei, saying he is in "complete health" amid what it described as attempts by opponents to cast doubt on his condition.
According to the IRGC's press channel on X, the image was also published on the official website of the Supreme Leader's office following months of speculation on social media over Mojtaba Khamenei's absence from public view.
The photograph triggered mixed reactions online, with some users questioning its authenticity and calling for recent video footage rather than a still image. Others pointed to Mojtaba Khamenei's prolonged absence from public appearances as a reason for continued speculation about his whereabouts and condition.
Iranian authorities have not publicly addressed the speculation beyond releasing the photograph, while Trump offered no evidence to substantiate his claims regarding Mojtaba Khamenei or the reported deaths of Iran's senior military leaders.
