WASHINGTON / TEHRAN (AP), Apr 1: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that Iran’s president had expressed interest in a ceasefire ahead of his address to the American people, making the remarks on his Truth Social platform.
Trump referred to “Iran’s New Regime President,” although Iran continues to have the same sitting president. He further stated that any ceasefire would depend on the Strait of Hormuz being “open, free, clear,” adding in a post that the United States was “blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages.”
Iran has not issued an official response to Trump’s post. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in an interview with Al Jazeera, signalled that Tehran remains unwilling to accept external pressure, saying Iran “does not set any deadline for defending ourselves” and rejecting what he described as threats and ultimatums.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has denied reports that Tehran has put forward any ceasefire proposal.
“The five-point plan allegedly proposed by Iran is media speculation,” he was quoted as saying by Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB. He added that “the war will continue until the aggressor is punished and full compensation is paid to Iran.”
In separate comments to Press TV, Araghchi outlined Iran’s position on ending the conflict.
