WASHINGTON, Apr 22: Former US President Donald Trump has said that Iran has agreed to halt the planned execution of several women protesters following his intervention, claiming that the authorities will instead release some detainees and reduce sentences for others.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he was informed that four women would be released immediately, while four others would receive one-month prison sentences. He added that he “very much appreciates” what he described as Iran’s decision to respect his request and cancel the alleged executions.

Trump further claimed the women had been scheduled for execution on Wednesday, though human rights groups monitoring Iran said two of the detainees had already been released on bail in March, while others were facing charges that could carry the death penalty after arrests during January anti-government protests.

The case gained further attention after Trump reposted an image of the women, including two teenage girls, on social media, drawing reactions from activists highlighting their prosecution.

However, Iran’s judiciary quickly rejected the claims, stating that none of the individuals were facing imminent execution and confirming that some had already been released, disputing the US political narrative around the case.
