Trump: Chances of Iran Deal or Military Strike Are ‘50-50’

WASHINGTON, May 23: US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the chances of reaching a deal with Iran were “50-50,” warning that failure in negotiations could lead to military action, according to an interview with Axios.

Trump said he would decide by Sunday whether to resume the war with Iran after reviewing Tehran’s latest proposal with his negotiating team.

“It’s a solid 50/50 whether we make a deal or blow them to kingdom come,” Trump told Axios, signaling uncertainty over the outcome of ongoing talks.

“I think one of two things will happen: either I hit them harder than they have ever been hit, or we are going to sign a deal that is good,” he said.

Trump also rejected suggestions that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was concerned the United States might agree to unfavorable terms with Tehran.

“He’s not worried,” Trump said when asked about Netanyahu’s reaction to a possible agreement.
