WASHINGTON, Jun 3: US House Speaker Mike Johnson has said the Trump administration is working on the “final piece” of a broader effort aimed at reopening commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Associated Press.
Johnson made the remarks after meeting President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House. He said the discussions focused on restoring safe and stable commerce through the strategic waterway and urged U.S. allies, including Arab states in the region and NATO partners, to support the initiative.
“The entire world has an interest in the Strait of Hormuz being reopened for commerce,” Johnson told reporters at the Capitol, adding that the administration is actively working toward that goal.
In separate remarks, President Trump said negotiations with Iran were “going very well” and suggested that a potential agreement could be reached soon, possibly over the weekend, though he did not provide further details.
