WASHINGTON, Oct 13: US President Donald Trump has accused Yemen’s Houthi movement of resuming hostile activities and targeting Saudi Arabia, alleging that the group may be acting at Iran’s behest and deliberately attempting to drive up global oil prices.

In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he believed the Houthis had learned a lesson after US forces bombed their positions last year, following which Washington halted its military campaign at the group’s request, according to his account.

“They've been silent for a long time, but now they've emerged again, probably at the behest of Iran,” Trump wrote, launching a sharp attack on Tehran’s military and economic capabilities.

Trump described Iran as a “Failing Nation” and claimed it had no navy, no air force and one of the world's worst economies, while citing inflation of 301 percent. These figures and characterisations were claims made by Trump and were not independently established in his post.

The US president further alleged that the Houthis were deliberately trying to push up oil prices, possibly ahead of the US elections, describing their actions as “NOT NICE.”

Trump said he was not running in the elections, claiming he had already won by a “MASSIVE LANDSLIDE,” but warned that he would return to the issue after the elections and would not forget the group’s actions.

“I will be there after the Elections, and I will never forget!” he wrote.

The statement signals renewed tensions surrounding the Houthis, Iran and regional security, particularly threats to Saudi Arabia and the potential impact of escalating hostilities on international oil markets.
