KUWAIT CITY, Nov 25, (Agencies): In a significant development aligning with government and parliamentary initiatives to amend traffic laws and intensify penalties for violations, recent statistics released by the Ministry of Justice highlight a staggering 431,000 various traffic violations recorded in the past ten months of 2023. This equates to an alarming average of more than 1,400 daily traffic violations.

Ministry of Justice reports 431,000 traffic violations in the last ten months.

According to data obtained by Al-Qabas, the traffic court figures for the same period reported 165 fatalities, with 126 rulings to withdraw driving licenses. The number of pending traffic cases before the country's traffic courts reached 15,556 during the first ten months of the year, from January to October.

The statistics further reveal that the total fines imposed for traffic court cases amounted to approximately 250 thousand dinars. Imprisonment sentences totaled 138, with the highest concentration of 37 sentences in the Capital Governorate, followed by Al-Ahmadi with 29 sentences.

In response to the alarming rise in traffic accidents and casualties due to non-compliance with traffic laws, legal sources have issued warnings. They attribute the surge in death rates to a lack of traffic awareness and insufficient deterrent legal penalties. These sources emphasize the urgent need for a new traffic law to be enacted promptly, asserting that it is crucial to bring order to the chaotic traffic situation, reduce violations, and hold reckless individuals accountable for their transgressions.
