Bid to ensure stability of supply system

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 2: Minister of Commerce and Industry and State Minister for Services Affairs Khalid Al-Rawdhan is planning to issue a decision to obligate contracting companies and traders, who signed contracts with the ministry for distribution of food items, to commit to selling subsidized food items at lower costs compared to similar products apart from the subsidized commodities, reports Al-Rai daily quoting informed sources.

They explained that the ministry noticed some traders achieving huge sales in their outlets including offers of lower prices compared to similar commodities provided to citizens according to the subsidized food supply. The ministry aims at ensuring stability of the supply system and its prices, which requires provision of high quality products at low prices.

The decision will not be limited to the food commodities but will also cover subsidized construction materials. The total supply is divided into food commodities, which make up 70 percent of the total amount allocated for subsidy, and construction materials, which make up 30 percent of the total budget allocated for subsidy.

Meanwhile, Undersecretary of Ministry of Social Affairs Abdulaziz Shu’aib affirmed that the ministry has taken a giant stride in the Kuwaitization of jobs and replacing expatriates with citizens in all sectors. He made a special mention of cooperative societies in that regard, stressing that Kuwaitization was applied on the supervisory positions in cooperative societies within the past few years to an unprecedented level
