KUWAIT CITY, Aug 24: The Ministry of Interior announced that the General Department of Criminal Investigations, through the Hawalli Governorate Investigations Department, has uncovered a major warehouse in the Al-Rai area supplying chemicals used in the production of illicit liquor.

The operation follows recent security measures that led to the arrest of a criminal network involved in manufacturing and distributing locally made intoxicants, which had caused cases of poisoning and death.

Authorities confirmed that the warehouse belongs to an Egyptian national, identified as Muhammad Abdo, who is currently outside Kuwait. Coordination is underway with Egyptian security authorities to pursue necessary legal action against him.

During the raid, investigators discovered nearly 340 plastic containers, each holding 25 liters of toxic chemicals. The hazardous substances were stored haphazardly in an unsafe facility that lacked basic safety requirements, posing severe risks of fire, explosion, toxic gas emissions, and environmental contamination—threatening both lives and property in the area.

The Public Fire Force was immediately called in to secure the site and handle the flammable materials. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Kuwait Municipality have also been engaged to take legal measures.

The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its commitment to combating criminal activities that endanger society, stressing that it will not hesitate to enforce the law against anyone attempting to undermine public safety.
