KUWAIT CITY, July 14: Director of Public Authority for Roads and Transportation (PART) Engineer Suha Ashkanani affirmed that “it’s premature to talk about the decision of imposing charges on private vehicles using the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Bridge”, adding they’ll look into the matter in future to determine whether or not to implement it, reports Al-Anba daily.

In an exclusive statement to the daily, Engineer Ashkanani added the authority has activated the decision of charging trucks passing through Sheikh Jaber Bridge a fee of KD 1 and implementation is due to begin this month (July) 16 on experimental basis. “The level of success the imposed levy will have is to be determined later, although there is no doubt it will generate income for the government”, she noted.

She also revealed that the relevant authority at the Ministry of Public Works has approved the implementation of several road and infrastructure schemes for many projects, which the authority is handling, in addition to vetting of contractors. Among those schemes are projects related to the Seventh Ring Road and external roads to link Medina with Kuwait in the future.

Also, Engineer Ashkanani indicated the authority has surveyed areas that would sustain rainfall beyond the normal rate to avoid damage, which usually occurs during the rainy season
