RIYADH, Aug 23: England striker Ivan Toney continued his impressive scoring run with Al Ahli by registering his sixth hat-trick for the Saudi club in a 4-0 victory over Abha in the second round of the Saudi Pro League.
Toney struck twice before halftime and completed his treble after the break, becoming the second player to score a hat-trick in the new league season after Al-Ettifaq’s Moussa Dembélé.
The three goals took Toney’s career tally of hat-tricks to 12, with six coming since he joined Al Ahli from Brentford in the summer of 2024.
His first treble for the Jeddah-based club came in February 2025, when he scored all three goals in a memorable 3-2 win over Al Hilal. He later added hat-tricks against Al Khaleej and Al-Ettifaq in January this year, followed by another against Al-Najma in February.
Toney then closed last season in style, scoring three times against Al Fateh in May. His latest treble further underlined his importance to Al Ahli’s attack.
The win over Abha lifted Al Ahli to six points and third place, while Abha remains without a point after two defeats and sits 17th.
In other matches, Al Khaleej drew 0-0 with Al Shabab, Al Kholood defeated Al Taawoun 3-2, and Al-Ettifaq edged Al Fateh 1-0. Al-Ittihad are scheduled to face Al Hazem today.
