KUWAIT CITY, Mar 9 : HH Ahmed Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of Kuwait and representative of the Amir Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, participated in a summit between regional leaders and the European Union via video conference, where he strongly condemned what he described as blatant Iranian attacks on Kuwait and other countries in the region.
In his address, the Kuwaiti premier said the attacks constituted a clear violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, international law, international humanitarian law, and the United Nations Charter. He stressed that Kuwait is not a party to the war and that its territory will not be used for military operations against any side.
The Prime Minister revealed that the Kuwaiti Armed Forces intercepted 234 ballistic missiles, 423 drones and one cruise missile targeting the country, including strikes aimed at civilian infrastructure and vital facilities such as Kuwait International Airport and oil refineries. The attacks resulted in the deaths of two civilians, including a child, as well as four personnel from the military and the Ministry of Interior, while 91 people were wounded.
He said Kuwait reserves its legitimate right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and reaffirmed the commitment of Gulf Cooperation Council countries to de-escalation through dialogue and diplomatic solutions while safeguarding sovereignty and regional security.
The Prime Minister also noted that Kuwait has declared force majeure on crude oil sales and reduced production amid continued threats to maritime navigation, warning that attacks on shipping routes could affect global energy security and supply chains. He stressed the importance of protecting strategic waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab.
Concluding his remarks, Al-Abdullah called for stronger international coordination, particularly with the European Union and through the United Nations, to halt aggression, prevent further escalation, and ensure accountability while preserving regional and global stability.
