KUWAIT CITY, Sept 19: A seemingly ordinary TikTok advertisement for home furniture ended with an expatriate losing KD260 from his bank account after he was allegedly directed to a fraudulent payment page, according to a security source.

The victim told authorities that he was browsing TikTok when he came across an advertisement offering furniture for sale. After clicking on the advertisement, he was automatically redirected to a WhatsApp conversation with the person behind the listing.

According to his statement, the person later sent him an electronic link to complete the payment. When the victim entered his bank details on the page, he was shocked to discover four unauthorized deductions totaling KD260 from his account.

The victim said he had not authorized or carried out the transactions.

Authorities have registered the case and referred it to the relevant investigative agencies, particularly because other complaints involving similar methods have also been reported.

Investigators are working to establish whether the cases are connected and determine whether the same individuals or network may be behind them. They are also examining how the victim was lured through the TikTok advertisement and electronic link and how the unauthorized deductions were carried out.

The security source said the incident is not being treated as an isolated case, with investigators comparing the details and methods used in similar reports.

Legal procedures remain underway to identify those involved, establish the circumstances surrounding the unauthorized transactions and determine the full extent of the suspected online fraud.
