LOS ANGELES, Oct 17, (Agencies): In a candid revelation, 80-year-old screen legend Robert De Niro has shared his thoughts on the experience of raising a baby daughter, Gia, with his girlfriend, Tiffany Chen. Gia is his seventh child but his first with Chen, born in April. De Niro, renowned for his acting career, recently opened up about the challenges and surprises that come with being a new dad at his age.
De Niro acknowledged that while things were "going okay," parenthood still presented its fair share of challenges. He expressed the profound uncertainty that parents face, emphasizing how children always have the capacity to surprise us. "You never know what's going to happen," De Niro remarked.
One thing that he's certain about, in his perspective, is that parenting doesn't become any easier with time. "It is what it is. It’s okay. I mean, I don't do the heavy lifting," De Niro confessed. "I'm there to support my girlfriend, but she does the lion's share of the work, and we have assistance, which is incredibly important."
When asked if he enjoys fatherhood, De Niro's response was enthusiastic: "Of course I do... [I enjoy] all of it! It's a different experience with a baby compared to my 11-year-old, my adult children, and my grandchildren. Each stage is unique."
Back in April, during the New York City premiere of his film "About My Father," the Oscar-winning actor had also expressed his delight in being a new dad, describing the experience as "great."
De Niro has a diverse family, sharing his adult children Drena, 51, and Raphael, 46, with ex-wife Diahnne Abbott, as well as 27-year-old twin sons, Aaron and Julian, with former girlfriend Toukie Smith. He also shares two children, Elliot, 25, and Helen Grace, 11, with his ex-wife Grace Hightower.
