Three US-seized tankers carrying nearly 6 million barrels of Iranian oil head toward US

WASHINGTON, Sept 24: Three Iran-linked tankers seized by the United States and carrying nearly six million barrels of Iranian crude oil were sailing in the Atlantic on Thursday toward the United States, according to vessel-tracking data cited by AFP.

TankerTrackers said the oil cargo, estimated to be worth nearly $600 million, was being transported toward the United States.

Two of the tankers, Majestic X and Tifani, were reported off Brazil’s northern coast, according to Kpler data. The vessels were seized by US authorities in April after loading crude oil in Iran.

The US Department of War said at the time that the seizures were intended to disrupt the activities of sanctioned vessels accused of providing material support to Iran.

The movement of the tankers comes amid continued US enforcement of sanctions targeting Iran’s oil exports and efforts to restrict Tehran’s access to oil revenues.
