ISLAMABAD, Sept 28: At least three traffic police personnel were killed and two passers-by injured in a militant ambush in northwestern Pakistan on Monday, Pakistan’s Interior Ministry said.
The attack took place in Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which has faced a renewed wave of militant violence in recent months. The two injured civilians were taken to a hospital for treatment.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Militants affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have frequently targeted security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan.
The province recorded 54 terrorist attacks in August, a 50 percent increase from July, according to monthly data compiled by the Islamabad-based Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies.
