CAIRO, Aug 13: Three people were killed and 17 others injured after a fire broke out at Arabella Plaza shopping mall in Cairo, Egypt, triggering panic among people inside the facility, reports Ahram.
Emergency services received reports of a restaurant fire and an elevator accident at the mall. Security forces and Civil Protection units were immediately dispatched to the scene, accompanied by ambulances.
Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar said eight ambulances were sent to the site. Eleven injured people were taken to Cairo’s New Cairo Specialized Hospital, while six others were transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The injured are receiving emergency medical care and undergoing necessary examinations, with their conditions being closely monitored.
Firefighters deployed several vehicles and succeeded in containing the blaze before it spread to other parts of the shopping centre.
Authorities are continuing to examine the scene and investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire and elevator accident to determine their causes.
