LONDON, Oct 5: Another tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, triggering a fire in the vessel’s engine room and marking the third tanker hit in the strategic waterway in two days, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The vessel’s master reported that the crew was fighting the fire, while no casualties or environmental impact had been reported at the time of the alert.
UKMTO said authorities were investigating the incident and urged vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
The latest incident adds to growing security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy shipping route, amid heightened regional tensions.
