KUWAIT CITY, Nov 23: The General Department of Criminal Investigation in Hawalli Governorate, through the Al-Nugra Investigation Office, recently uncovered an unusual theft case involving what authorities are calling a “lucky thief” whose fortune quickly ran out. The suspect stole a high-value Rolex watch from a restaurant restroom, only to be forced to return it after his attempt to sell it failed.
According to official sources, a customer at a well-known fast-food restaurant in Al-Nuqra reported that he had accidentally left his Rolex watch, valued at around 4,800 Kuwaiti dinars, in the restroom. Restaurant management informed the Al-Nugra Police Station that an unidentified individual had entered the restaurant and handed the watch to the branch manager. The manager advised him to report to the police, as the theft had been officially registered. The individual then left the premises in an unknown direction.
Following the report, detectives reviewed surveillance footage and consulted confidential sources, which led to the identification of the perpetrator: an Arab expatriate born in 1976. Upon contact, the suspect voluntarily turned himself in.
When confronted with the evidence, including photos from the scene, he admitted to taking the watch. He explained that he had found it in the restroom and attempted to sell it. However, his efforts failed because the watch was a genuine Rolex, which requires accompanying warranty cards and accessories for authentication. This raised suspicion among potential buyers, forcing him to return the item. He claimed that he had taken the watch in good faith and decided to return it once he realized he could not sell it.
Authorities have recorded the incident as a theft case, and investigations are ongoing to determine if any further legal measures are necessary.
