KUWAIT CITY, Aug 18:  Customs inspectors at Shuwaikh Port seized more than 2,200 items of subsidized food supplies hidden in six 40-foot containers destined for export to Sri Lanka, the General Administration of Customs announced.

The containers, belonging to several shipping and export companies, were intercepted during export procedures before their departure from the country.

Inspections revealed the containers held large quantities of government-subsidized food items intended for the local market, not for export.

Items Seized

  • 787 packages of subsidized pasta
  • 435 bottles of Dalal cooking oil
  • 349 bags of subsidized flour
  • 323 cans of subsidized tomato paste
  • 211 cans of subsidized milk
  • 49 bags of subsidized rice
  • 38 bags of subsidized lentils
  • 35 bags of subsidized sugar
  • 9 cans of Dalal vegetable ghee

The seizure is part of ongoing efforts to protect Kuwait's food security, maintain strategic reserves of essential commodities, and ensure subsidized supplies reach their intended beneficiaries rather than being diverted for illicit export.

The General Administration of Customs said it took the prescribed customs and legal measures against the containers and seized goods, referring the case to relevant authorities for further action under applicable laws.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to tightening control over all customs ports and combating attempts to smuggle subsidized food supplies, warning that legal action will be taken against anyone involved in such activities.
