KUWAIT CITY, Jul 9: Kuwait's emergency inspection teams have seized 1,399 used and refurbished air conditioning compressors after uncovering an operation that allegedly relabeled the units and sold them as new to consumers.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said inspection teams from the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Department in Al Ahmadi and Mubarak Al-Kabeer governorates discovered the violation during routine inspections of commercial stores.
Authorities found that the offending store had removed the original country-of-origin labels from the compressors and replaced them with false labels showing different origin information in an apparent attempt to mislead customers.
Officials said the refurbished compressors, of various brands and sizes, were being marketed as new to capitalize on the increased demand for air conditioning units during the summer season.
The ministry said the store was immediately closed, legal action was taken against the violator, and the case has been referred to the competent authorities to complete the necessary legal procedures.
