LOS ANGELES, Oct 28, (Agencies): The Beatles are set to release their final-ever song, and the news was announced by band members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr on Friday. Titled "Now and Then," the track has a unique history. It was originally written and sung by the late John Lennon in the late 1970s, further developed and worked on by the late George Harrison, McCartney, and Starr in the mid-'90s, and was eventually completed by McCartney and Starr over four decades later.

This double A-side single pairs their last song with their first: the band's debut UK single from 1962, "Love Me Do." The release also boasts original cover art created by the renowned artist Ed Ruscha.

Just one day after the release of "Now and Then," its accompanying music video is scheduled to premiere.

In a statement, McCartney shared that hearing Lennon's "crystal clear" voice on the track was "quite emotional." Starr added that it felt like the closest they would ever come to having Lennon back in the room, making it an emotional experience for all of them.

"We all play on it. It’s a genuine Beatles recording," McCartney noted. "In 2023, to still be working on Beatles music and on the verge of releasing a new, unheard song to the public, I think it's an exciting thing."

In 2021, The Beatles: Get Back director Peter Jackson was tasked with bringing the song to life using the same AI restoration techniques employed in the groundbreaking documentary.

"Now and Then" features '90s guitar recordings from Harrison, who passed away in 2001, along with new instrumentation contributed by McCartney and Starr. This final song serves as a poignant chapter in the legendary band's remarkable history.
