WASHINGTON, Aug 1: US President Donald Trump is closer than ever to approving a “significant” strike against Iran, though no final decision has been made, an Israeli official told Israeli news outlet N12 on Saturday.

The official said tensions with Iran had reached a “boiling point” and that Israel had raised its alert level amid uncertainty over whether Trump would seek Israeli involvement from the beginning of any potential operation.

According to the report, intelligence presented to Trump included options for a limited and targeted strike on Iranian energy facilities. Such an operation could have a major impact on Iran’s domestic situation while avoiding a broader escalation that could push up global energy prices.

The Israeli official said discussions remain ongoing and that the scope and timing of any possible action have not been finalized.
