WASHINGTON, Oct 10, (AP): A tragic incident in Tennessee has prompted a mother to issue a warning about the potential hazards associated with balloons after the loss of her 7-year-old daughter earlier this month. As reported by CBS station WVLT and the mother's social media post, Channa Kelly shared her heartbreaking story on Facebook.

In her Facebook post on a Sunday, the grieving mother recounted how she had purchased a large rainbow number 7 balloon filled with helium, along with around 10 Roblox-themed latex balloons for her daughter Alexandra Kelly's seventh birthday celebration on Sept 24. Kelly explained that she had been present as her daughter joyfully popped the latex balloons a week later on Oct 1. However, tragedy struck when she briefly left the room, completely unaware of any potential danger posed by the non-latex balloon.

Upon her return, Kelly discovered her daughter lying face down on the living room floor with the large balloon around her head. She described the harrowing moment, saying, "As a parent, I was always aware of the choking hazard of latex balloons, but never imagined that there was such a risk regarding these very large" balloons. Kelly initially thought her daughter had simply fallen asleep but quickly realized the danger and removed the balloon. She immediately called 911 and began administering CPR, seeking guidance from the emergency operators due to the passage of time since her last certification.

Despite the prompt response from the police and first responders who took over CPR efforts, they were unable to revive the young girl, as reported by her devastated mother. Kelly expressed her grief in her Facebook post, stating, "On Sunday, October 1st, my entire world collapsed around me, all because I was unaware of the risk surrounding these types of balloons. It is unknown whether she passed away from helium poisoning or suffocation. We are currently awaiting the preliminary results for the final determination of her cause of death, a process that could take up to 4 to 6 months," she added.

Clinton Police confirmed that they are investigating the incident, and the precise cause of death has yet to be determined, underscoring the importance of raising awareness about potential balloon-related dangers.
