Tender to dev Shuwaikh Port

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 19: Kuwait Port Authority (KPA) has requested Central Agency for Public Tenders to float the tender to seek consultant studies for developing and expanding Shuwaikh Port within the current fiscal year, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting informed sources. They explained that KPA affirmed the availability of the budget for the tender.

The project is already included in the developmental plan of the 2019/2020 fiscal year. The budget allocated for the design process is KD one million to be executed in nine months, and KD 2 million has been allocated for the supervision process for a period of 36 months.

The sources said KPA is continuing with the execution of the project despite observations raised by the Parliament’s Budgets Committee, which insisted about a government tendency to close down Shuwaikh Port after the inauguration of Mubarak Port, 75 percent of which has been accomplished.

They revealed that the observations raised include legal reasons such as the ban on deepening the water level of Kuwait Bay; however, KD 52.5 million has been allocated for developing Shuwaikh Port
