KOTA, Rajasthan, Jan 29, (Agencies): In the early hours of today, an 18-year-old girl Niharika Solanki committed suicide in Kota, Rajasthan, leaving behind a note stating that she was taking this extreme step as a last resort.

Niharika, the eldest of three daughters, was living with her parents and preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) scheduled for January 30. The police reported that she was tense about the upcoming exam, and a note she left behind expressed her feelings of inadequacy and despair.

Niharika's father works as a security guard at a bank, and the incident adds to the unfortunate trend of suicides among students preparing for competitive exams in Kota, a city known for such tragedies.

The note left behind reads, “Mummy papa, I can’t do JEE so I (commit) suicide. I am a loser. Worst daughter. Sorry mummy papa. Yahi last option he (This is the last option).”

DSP Singh said Niharika had completed her Class 12 last year but did not get good marks, “so she was giving dummy (mock) exams and also preparing for JEE. When her door did not open, family members and neighbors broke it down,” he said.

This is the second death by suicide in Kota this year. Last week, Mohammad Zaidi, a resident of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, allegedly killed himself. Like Niharika, he too was preparing for JEE. Last year, about 30 students committed suicide in the city.
