DHAKA, Feb 17, (Xinhua): Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman has been elected leader of his parliamentary party for the country's 13th parliament. After taking the oath on Tuesday morning, the new BNP members of parliament elected Rahman as their leader at the maiden meeting of the BNP Parliamentary Party.

According to a gazette notification published by the Election Commission on Friday, the BNP won 209 out of 297 seats in the Feb. 12 general elections. The BNP is scheduled to form its new cabinet later in the day. Secretary of the National Parliament Secretariat Kaniz Moula told journalists on Monday that Bangladeshi President Mohammed Shahabuddin will administer the oath to the new cabinet members at 4 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
