LONDON, Oct 29: A tanker was struck by an unknown projectile while sailing out of the Strait of Hormuz, near Oman's coast, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported Thursday, raising fresh security concerns over shipping in the strategic waterway.

According to UKMTO Warning 186-26, the incident occurred at approximately 1600 UTC on Oct 29, as the vessel was completing its outbound transit of the strait.

The report was received from a company security officer, who informed UKMTO that the tanker had been hit by an unidentified projectile.

There were no reported injuries among the crew, and no environmental impact had been reported at the time of the warning.

UKMTO advised vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity while the relevant authorities investigate the incident.

The warning did not identify the vessel, specify the type of projectile involved or attribute responsibility for the incident.
