Centcom - Ships with the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group sail in the Indian Ocean, April 23.

DUBAI, May 5: A commercial vessel sailing near the eastern coast of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates was hit by an unidentified projectile, according to an advisory issued by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations.

The incident occurred approximately 78 nautical miles north of Fujairah, a critical bunkering and shipping hub outside the Strait of Hormuz. Despite the strike, all crew members onboard the vessel were reported safe, and no casualties have been confirmed.

UKMTO did not provide details on the nature of the projectile or identify any group responsible for the attack. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely amid heightened regional tensions.

The development comes shortly after Donald Trump announced a new maritime security initiative set to begin Monday, under which US forces will escort commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The move is aimed at safeguarding global shipping routes following a series of recent threats and disruptions in the region.

The waters around Fujairah and the Strait of Hormuz are among the world’s most strategically important shipping lanes, carrying a significant share of global oil supplies. Any escalation in maritime incidents is likely to raise concerns over energy security and international trade stability.
