DOHA, Oct 7 : A tanker was struck by multiple projectiles off the coast of Qatar on Wednesday, with casualties reported, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

UKMTO said the incident occurred at 1900 UTC, approximately 51 nautical miles north of Madinat ash Shamal, Qatar.

The maritime security agency said the tanker reported being hit by multiple projectiles. It did not provide details on the number of casualties, the vessel’s identity, the nature of the injuries or the source of the projectiles.

Authorities are investigating the incident, while UKMTO advised vessels operating in the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.

The latest incident adds to a series of recent projectile attacks and maritime security incidents involving commercial vessels in and around the Gulf region. UKMTO has repeatedly urged vessels to maintain heightened vigilance while transiting affected waters.
