Tanker fires warning shots after approach by six boats south of Aden

LONDON, Jul 13: A tanker transiting the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor was approached by six small boats about 50 nautical miles south of Aden, Yemen, on Monday, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.

According to UKMTO, one of the boats came within five cables of the vessel, prompting the tanker's armed security team to fire warning shots. The remaining five boats stayed approximately one nautical mile away.

The incident is under investigation. UKMTO advised vessels operating in the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
